Fred grew up in North Dakota and came to know the Lord as a young boy. He received a degree in electrical engineering from North Dakota State University and then served in the Air Force for four years. He worked as a cost/scheduling engineer on construction projects in North Dakota and Wyoming. In 1985, God called him to seminary and he graduated from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana in 1988. Shortly after, he accepted the call to serve as pastor at Le Mars Bible Church where he has been ever since.
The joy of Fred’s life is to study and teach the Word of God and shepherd the people of God. He firmly believes that serving Jesus Christ by pastoring the local church is what God designed him for. He also finds great joy in being married to Kamie since 1973. They have two children who love the Lord and five wonderful grandchildren.
In his spare time, Fred enjoys reading, fishing, and riding his motorcycle.
Pastor Fred is stepping down from his role as senior pastor on July 1, 2017, but will continue to serve in a part-time pastoral role at LBC.

Mike received Jesus Christ while he was a young boy growing up in Lincoln, Nebraska. He received his B.A. in Pastoral Studies from Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa in 1999, and his M.Div. from The Master’s Seminary in southern California in 2002.
Mike and his wife Chris met at their local church in Lincoln and were married in 1999. The Lord has blessed them with four children: Ethan, Rebecca, Luke, and Karis.
Mike has been serving at Le Mars Bible Church ever since his graduation from seminary, initially serving as youth pastor and since 2007 as associate pastor. His pastoral responsibilities include preaching in Sunday evening services, teaching adult Bible classes, working alongside the church deacons in their responsibilities, and providing leadership and oversight for many of the church’s ministries.
Mike’s passion in life is to study, practice, and teach the all-sufficient Word of God. Nothing thrills him more than seeing God use His Word to change people’s lives.
Most of Mike’s free time is happily spent with his wife and young children – other things Mike enjoys include spending time outdoors, reading, running, playing disc golf, and following Husker football.
Starting July 1, Pastor Mike will transition to his new role as LBC’s next Lead Pastor.

We believe that the one supreme authority for the church is Christ, and that He leads His church through His Words in Scripture. Serving under Christ to provide direction and spiritual oversight for the church are its elders. Scripture says that an elders is to rule (1 Tim. 5:17), to work hard at preaching and teaching (1 Tim. 5:17), to lead by his personal example (Hebrews 13:7), and to guard right doctrine (Titus 1:9). The congregation is urged to obey their leaders and submit to them (Hebrews 13:17). The elders at Le Mars Bible Church are:
- Fred Gums
- Mike Hulinsky
- Adam Moss
- Derald Philips
- Jim Rahn
The role of the deacons is to support the elders in practical ways, so that the elders might give attention to prayer and to the ministry of the Word. Deacons at LBC perform their service under the direction of the elders. Deacons oversee the facilities and other physical assets of the church, take responsibility for meeting the physical needs of church members, and give direction to certain areas of church ministry. Below are the deacons at Le Mars Bible Church:
- Jim Barker
- Greg Law
- Peter Verschoor
- Caleb Widman
- Shawn Winter
